How do I apply?

Funding for services and supports is determined through the enrollment process including a standardized assessment. Southeast Iowa Link (SEIL) shall be the funder of last resort and regional funds shall not replace other funding that is available.

What is Mental Health Agency of Southeast Iowa?

Mental Health Agency of Southeast Iowa (MHASEI) is a Mental Health & Disability Services (MHDS) Region comprised of thirteen counties. (Appanoose, Des Moines, Davis, Henry, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lee, Louisa, Mahaska, Monroe, Van Buren, Wapello & Washington counties.) Each county has a local access office where people may apply for service funding, receive referrals and get questions answered. The local Coordinator of Disability Services (CDS) or other staff is available to assist applicants.

Which medical mental illness diagnoses do I need to have?

Adult Diagnostic Categories age 18 and over

Mentally Illness (MI)
Intellectually Disabled (ID)
Developmentally Disabled (DD)

Children’s Diagnostic Categories up to age 18

Children’s Behavioral Health (CBH)
Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED)

Who's Eligible?

Eligibility Criteria Includes:

At least 18 years of age
Lawful resident of Iowa
Meets income guidelines of 150% Federal Poverty for most services
Meets resource guidelines of $2,000 per individual / $3,000 per household
Has a diagnosis of Mental Illness, Intellectual Disability or Developmental Disability (may have other co/occurring diagnoses)
Completes a Mental Health & Disability Services MHDS Application with a local access staff and participates in a functional assessment, as coordinated by an Integrated Health Homes (IHH) or case management, supporting the need for services.

What does it mean to have a mental illness?

Mental illness, also called mental health disorders, refers to a wide range of mental health conditions — disorders that affect your mood, thinking and behavior. Examples of mental illness include depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders and addictive behaviors.

Who is effected by mental illness

According to Johns Hopkins, an estimated 26% of Americans ages 18 and older — about 1 in 4 adults — suffers from a diagnose mental disorder in a given year.

Many people suffer from more than one mental disorder at a given time. In particular, depressive illnesses tend to co-occur with substance abuse and anxiety disorders.

Approximately 9.5% of American adults ages 18 and over, will suffer from a depressive illness (major depression, bipolar disorder, or dysthymia) each year.
